Hazel (Jesse) Samudio Guereque June 17, 1920 - Oct. 25, 2011 Resident of Hayward Hazel Guereque passed away at the age of 91. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas, raised in Turlock and Fresno, Calif., eventually moved to Oakland, and finally to Hayward. During WWII she worked at the Richmond shipyard. Later, to help support her family, she worked at Sunshine Biscuit, Gerber's, and spent the latter of her working years at both the Hunts and Del Monte canneries. She and her husband enjoyed camping and swimming, Roller Derby, and taking tour buses with a group of people to Tahoe and Las Vegas. She enjoyed music and dancing, especially dancing with her husband. They made a great looking couple and in their heyday they were known as "The It Couple." She loved to knit, crochet and sew, and made beautiful things for many people. She loved puttering around in her yard, collecting many plants (many, many plants), and always seemed to keep herself busy with different projects. Hazel belonged to the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Hayward for many years. Even though she lived modestly and frugally, she was always there if someone needed anything. She did not hesitate to give what she had. She always took care of her family in the best way she could. Even though she was small in stature, she was a very strong-willed person and her mind was sharp until the end. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Anastacio (Tacho). She is survived by her daughters, Adel Lewis (husband Ron), and Rebecca Blackburn. He leaves behind her grandchildren, Richard and Edward Texeira, Ynez Blackburn. She also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, and her precious companions "Sheena" and "Tommy." Mom will certainly be missed by all who knew her. Visitation and viewing Sun., Oct. 30, from 5-9 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward. 510-471-3363. Funeral services will be Mon., Oct. 31 at 10 a.m.
