Harold L. "Sandy" Sandkulla, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Morningside Assisted Living and Alzheimer's Care Facility in Newport News.

Harold was born on April 22, 1947 in Eureka, CA and is descended from the Yurok Indian tribe. He enlisted in the Air Force in April 1975 and retired in 1995. He continued to serve his country after retirement as a civil employee until his medical retirement from government service in March 2005.

He is survived by a large loving family; son, Stacy Sandkulla and wife Nicole of San Mateo, CA, daughter Renee Sandkulla of San Mateo, CA, son Travis Sandkulla and his wife Moriah of Chesapeake, VA, sons, Chris Ransom and his wife Stephanie of Vinton, VA and Jeff Clinevell and his wife Spring of Salem, VA; daughter, Tonya Draper of Salem, VA; Sandy was a beloved Grandpa to Kristen, Haley, Alex, Sydney, and Bailey who live in Virginia and to Alex and Holly who live in California; He is also survived by a sister, Lorrie Toohey and her husband Wayne of Sacramento, CA; sister, Debbie Pollock and her husband Butch of Avery, CA. sister, Mary Nagle and husband Bruce of Watertown, WI and a brother Richard Sandkulla of San Jose, CA and several nieces and nephews. Also mourning his passing is Sandra Stevens and her husband Mike of Yorktown, VA.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at 2:00 PM in Amory Funeral Home Chapel conducted by a dear friend of Harold's Rev. Jack Lynch. Burial will take place in Skylawn Memorial Park, Half Moon Bay, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the center of Excellence on Brain Aging: Lewy Body Disease Specialty Center in Memory of Harold.
